NAITA Standing Committees

Elections Committee

NAITA Special Committees

Awards Committee

The Awards Committee is chaired by a Board Member selected by the President. This committee solicits nominations for the NAITA Global Trade Award; reviews applications; and recommends the recipient to the NAITA Board of Directors. Further information on this award and a sample application are included in this manual. This committee also identifies other opportunities for public recognition of global trade accomplishments and facilitates nominations of members for other awards such as the U.S. Department of Commerce "E" Award and Export Achievement Certificate, SBA Exporter of the Year, and the Governor's Export Achievement Award.

By-Laws Committee

The By-Laws Committee is chaired by a Board Member selected by the President. This committee reviews by-laws for updates/changes. This committee implements the process to amend the by-laws.

Education Committee

The Education Committee is chaired by a Board Member selected by the President. This committee identifies education needs of the membership and plans seminars, workshops, briefings and newsletter articles to address these needs. This committee is also responsible for compiling, editing, and producing the e-newsletter.

Finance and Administration Committee

The Finance and Administration Committee is chaired by the Treasurer. This committee oversees the Association's finances, investments, annual compilation and administrative contracts.

Global Initiatives Committee

The Global Initiatives Committee is chaired by the Vice President-Global Initiatives. This committee identifies and coordinates with strategic partners for NAITA that could lead to increased international business for the region. This committee determines how to structure these strategic partnerships for long-term growth.

Government Affairs Committee

The Government Affairs Committee is chaired by a Board Member selected by the President. This committee is responsible for monitoring government issues related to international trade. This committee researches the issues and provides recommendations to the Board on whether or not NAITA should take a position. This committee works closely with the Program and Education Committees to inform the membership of its activities.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee is chaired by the Vice President - Membership. This committee develops and implements a plan for increasing the quality and quantity of the membership and makes recommendations on membership benefits for membership retention. This committee identifies and recruits new members at all membership levels and identifies materials and information needed for membership recruitment. To accomplish this objective, the committee identifies membership incentives and implements approved incentives. Maintains membership statistics.

Programs Committee

The Programs Committee is chaired by the Vice President - Programs. This committee identifies speakers for the Annual Meeting and World Trade Day. This committee identifies programs and settings for up to 4 International Business Interchanges annually. This committee coordinates with the Airport regarding the date and format for Port of Huntsville Night (October).

Public Relations Committee

The Public Relations Committee is a sub-committee of the Membership Committee and reports to the Vice President - Membership This committee utilizes various media to promote NAITA and international trade. This committee evaluates current methods of communication: email, mail, newsletter, website, and provides input on how to improve and/or change communication channels.

This committee also develops a Media Campaign for NAITA:

  • Develop key contacts within the media for maximum exposure.
  • Establish a speakers bureau for promoting NAITA and international trade.
  • Solicit speaking engagements with appropriate industry and civic organizations.
  • Work with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to update and expand "Faces of Trade" for North Alabama.
  • Solicit more coverage/exposure for international trade in the The Huntsville Times.

Scholarship Committee

The Scholarship Committee is chaired by a Board Member selected by the President. This committee solicits and reviews applications and selects students to receive a NAITA Scholarship of $500 to be applied to tuition costs. This committee establishes the process to be approved by the Board of Directors.

Social/Holiday Party Committee

The Social/Holiday Party Committee is a sub-committee of the Membership Committee and reports to the Vice President - Membership. This committee organizes social events for NAITA members and prospective members and coordinates the annual Holiday Party. This committee will select the location for social events, select a caterer if needed, provide hosts for the event and secure sponsors for the event. The committee chair will coordinate final logistics with the Vice President – Membership. Only the Executive Committee can contractually obligate the Association.

Sponsorship Development Committee

The Sponsorship Development Committee is a sub-committee of the Membership Committee and reports to the Vice President - Membership. This committee identifies sponsorship opportunities and identifies and recruits sponsors for NAITA or specific NAITA events. Sponsors may include Sustaining ($1500/yr) and Patron ($5000/yr) members or be a financial sponsor for a major event or series.

Strategic Planning Committee

The Strategic Planning Committee is chaired by a Board Member selected by the President. This committee evaluates NAITA's mission statement and plans the focus and direction of the organization, both short and long-term. This committee also determines methods to evaluate the impact of trade on local/regional economy. Board-approved recommendations from this committee are implemented through NAITA's committee structure.
