Madison County Commission International Trade Development Center

Today's businesses have unprecedented international expansion opportunities. Preparation is key to capitalizing on these new opportunities as well as facing increasing international competition both at home and abroad. Moving into the export market or expanding export operations can be a real challenge. The International Trade Development Center is your partner in the global marketplace, providing a variety of services to help you initiate or expand your international operations.

The International Trade Development Center (ITDC), implemented in 1983, is part of the Madison County Commission's overall economic development effort and is operated through the department of Planning and Economic Development. The program strives to facilitate international development in Madison County with the ultimate goal of business expansion. Individual counseling and assistance are provided to local businesses to achieve this goal.

International Services

Export Consultation

Individualized consulting services for firms interested in developing and/or expanding export markets. Consultations may include an analysis of client needs and export potential, identification of market entry alternatives, assistance in international strategic planning and response to problem-specific requests such as export licensing and protocol issues.

Export Mentoring

Matching new-to-export or new-to-market companies with experienced export professionals for tailored export assistance. This program is conducted in partnership with the North Alabama International Trade Association (NAITA).

Information Clearinghouse

Referral service for specialized international needs, such as finance, banking, insurance, legal advice, documentation and shipping. Provides a link to a network of state, national, and international resources. Provides access to international trade databases containing current market research data. ITDC manages NAITA’s website, which provides links to online resources.

Training

Organization of seminars and group training sessions highlighting the mechanics of exporting and country and industry-specific export opportunities. Joint sponsorship of seminars and training sessions with other organizations, such as the North Alabama International Trade Association, Alabama Development Office, Birmingham Export Assistance Center, Alabama International Trade Center, the Alabama Export Council, and the Alabama World Trade Association.

Market Outreach

Organization of group participation in overseas trade shows and missions addressing specific needs of local industry. ITDC also hosts foreign buying delegations and exploratory missions.
